About Us

History and Mission

Ventures for Hope was founded by Kim Ogden in 2014 as a nonprofit dedicated to building hope and economic opportunity for the global poor.  Kim’s previous experience as a partner at Bain and Company, and later as a founding member of nonprofit Agape International’s management team, convinced her that the answer to global poverty was more job opportunities.  While increasing global job opportunities is obviously a complicated public/private scale challenge, Ventures for Hope believes in using what resources we do have to impact those we can.

Together with the VH board, all professional women with big hearts and big ideas, VH was launched as an “umbrella” organization to help resource nonprofits focused on creating job opportunities in economically disadvantaged communities.  VH supports such partner nonprofits through pro bono consulting, marketing and capital investment support.

Examples of Our Work

Building New Marketing Opportunities:

Supporting Capital Investment:

Pro Bono Consulting:

Ventures for Hope designed and piloted a catalog and website featuring all nonprofit products from a number of nonprofit partners including Ten Thousand Villages, Nomi Network, Mustard Seed, One Hen, and Starfish.  Since most nonprofits lack the depth of products as well as the capital and manpower to launch major marketing efforts or innovations, Ventures for Hope provided an opportunity that our partners would not have been able to do alone.  While Ventures for Hope lacked the capital and manpower to sustain a catalog business (and VH’s mission was not to become a retail enterprise), the catalog pilot provided its partner organizations with high end images and marketing approaches the were later incorporated into their own strategies (for example, Ten Thousand Villages).  Ventures for Hope continues to be excited about the potential for expanded shared marketing investment for businesses with a proven social component.

The businesses launched by Ventures for Hope partner nonprofits do not have access to capital markets.  For example, Nomi Network, a nonprofit dedicated to ending slavery for women and girls through economic empowerment, works with ethical sewing centers that provide survivors and women at risk of trafficking with much needed job training and job opportunities.  Nomi was working to start a new sewing center in Bihar, but lacked the funds to do so.  VH came alongside Nomi and through its network was able to raise $50,000 in capital support to build the new sewing center.

VH’s founder and Board have decades of experience in business consulting and provide this expertise at no cost to VH’s nonprofit partners.  VH has provided counsel on overall, marketing, and fundraising strategy
